First Friday Challenge

Yes, I know I'm a day late in posting this, and that my post is hours later than it should be, but I'm putting it down to delayed shock after my accident. I'm also attributing my terrible skull crushing tiredness to delayed shock. I might as well blame everything on it today.
As I am up in the air about things at the moment and still unable to update my DIY downsize me challenge, I thought I would introduce the inaugural Inkpot Friday Challenge. Malice Blackheart has been kind enough to challenge me to a poetry writing contest. I say kind, but what I really should say is sneaky as he knows he is brilliant at poetry and that I'm not, but that just makes it a greater challenge for me (you know I love you Mal).
Anyway, the deal is this. We are going to decide on what form the poem is to take and I want one of you, dear readers, to decide on the theme. I'll post the poems next Friday for you all to see and bask in our glorious-ness as wordsmiths. Poetry is the highest of the art forms, after all.
So put your thinking hats on for themes (and a new challenge for next week if you want) and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I have another challenge for your poetry writing challenge! Challenge in a challenge! Yay!

During your famous outing, get hold of somebody and ask him / her what would he /she likes in a poem you are going to write for him / her. After completing said poetry, go and meet the person and ask if the poem is alright for him / her. Give him / her a copy!

Maybe your poem might end up on a bulletin board / bar / garage etc. of siad persons. :)

Its only an idea though....

I do not wish to read any evil-themed poetry, my heart is too black with it already. Make me smile Inky!

Gosh, typos. Bane of my life! 'like' and 'said'.

Yes, I'm very sneaky. But you're the more seasoned writer and blogger, so it should even out. Also, I like the idea of doing a sonnet, since I have as-of-yet never successfully written one.

Now we just need a theme.

A sonnet is very hard to write I think as its rhyming structure is very disiplined but good choice! I wrote one recently, it was an ode to my horse- I don't know how that would grab either of you. what about an ode to your dog? to your favourite character in fiction/tv or to each other?
Ok, all dumb ideas but at least a start...

Gosh Shadowthorne, a challenge in a challenge! This is turning out to be doubly hard! I think I might be able to manage it though *gulp*.

Sonnet it is Mal. Let the themes roll in.

I like those ideas, thanks Anon. Please email me the sonnet to your horse, I would love to read it. :)

I don't think those are dumb ideas at all, particularly the one about favorite fictional characters. I think we could have a lot of fun with that. And actually, last month I wrote a double dactyl about my cat:

I love your dactyl about Chocobo Mal, and your picture of him too. So cute. Ok, are we settled on favourite fictional character as the theme? i have ideas already. Now all I have to do is approach some stranger and ask how they would like it written and hope they don't drag me off to the nut house. :)

Okay, it's settled. The format is the sonnet, and the subject is our favorite fictional character.

Any other restrictions I should know about? Like, say, three words we must incorporate into the sonnet?

Inkpot said...

Ok Mal. Sonnet - check. Favourite fictional characters - check. Three words we have to use? I will accost a stranger tomorrow and get some. Feel free to do the same. :D

These are two different sets of words two different people sent me on facebook:

butterscoth, wildly, forego
caricature, lonesome, entirely

Here are a few more, for variety:

drastic, Socrates, syphilitic
tools, calligraphy, rock

I say we just choose our favorite set of 3 and go with it, or if you prefer, we can just drop the extra rule and write the damn sonnet. The deadline's getting close anyway.

These words are great. Do we just chose our favourite set or do we both have to include the same one? If we have to go for the same one, I chose the first two sets you posted. I've ideas about them already. :D

Malice Blackheart said...

Okay, how about we both agree to use "caricature," "lonesome," and "entirely" in our sonnet?

My sonnet is up, Inkpot. Now it's your turn.
