Writer Out and About

This week I choose Cafe Anne in the Carroll Village Shopping Centre, Dundalk. I pass it every week going grocery shopping, so it was nice to actually go into it for a change. It has the ever so slight feel of a greasy spoon with plastic table clothes and rather depressed workers. However, my malteaser cheesecake was excellent and the latte hit the spot. I found a quiet table out of the flow of action and settled in for some work. They were playing the greatest hits of Westlife, so I was doubly glad to have my iphone with me (I don't like Westlife). There were a lot of workmen at the other tables eating hearty breakfasts of sausage, egg, beans and black pudding. Strangely enough I found it had a much more relaxing atmosphere than my choice for last week. Go figure.

I took with me this week... (gosh, I really have to shake this list up; I'm thinking of wearing a clown suit next week, or bringing a placard that reads 'Writer At Work' to put on the table)

1. The loose change that is all I have left from my Christmas budget

2. My Mary Poppins bag that holds everything

3. Iphone (duh)

4. Pen, paper, yada yada yada.

This one looks less chic than the last one. I have acquired the taste of expensive cakes just recently; so in love with chilled banana-cream cake.

What's black pudding? We don't have that here.

what do you normally have in your MAry Poppins bag?

To answer Monster's question... "Why everything, of course." tee hee

Anyway, I was thinking that it might be fun for you to try and sneak in to places (with snack and pen) to write. You could write at the back pew of a cool church or in a movie theater, concert hall or even warehouse.

No laws broken, of course, but maybe a mix-up is in order to grease the creative machine?

So - do you ever get a chance to write at these locations? Will various premises, greasy or otherwise, put up placards in years to come claiming the 'Here Inkpot wrote her great novel...'??

Mmm... chic isn't what I would call this place. In fact, it is the opposite of chic. :) Chilled banana-cream cake sounds delicious Shadowthorne, what other expensive cakes have you discovered? Oh, and black pudding (or blood pudding as it is sometimes called)is a sausage made from congealed blood mixed with bread or oatmeal. It is usually served fried with rashers and sausages. Yum. :) (I've never eaten it!)

It was quite nice, Anon. :)

I think G.C has already answered your question Monster! :)

Wow G.C, that is such a great idea! I have a whole week of writer out and about next week, but watch this space for more inventive places to write! :)

Hee hee VT, what a nice thought! I do write but it is usually short stories or plans and outlines for short stories. When I sell one of them I'll go back and tell them to put up a placard in my honour!

I guess I am a day late, where did you get the time to visit the greasy place

Hi Docpot. I'll let you into a little secret. You have to promise not to tell. *whispers* I do my writer out and about a week in advance. :)

Aha! I see you added the food to the post, and I see myself forced to stare at it now.

I want your Mary Poppins bag!!

PS: Mary Poppins is probably one of my top favoritest films, I pretty much know all the lines and get a regular dose of it. I love Julie Andrews.
